From a fungus-filled beverage to rosaries with an unexpected religious element to perfume made from your DNA, TODAY style editor Bobbie Thomas shares the latest strange but stylish trends from the fashion world that are sure to have everyone talking.

Symbol swap
While rosaries are traditionally associated with Catholicism, one designer is putting her own spin on the symbolic necklace by creating “Jewish Rosaries.” From the Chai Maintenance necklace to an Oy Vey Lucky Charm prayer bracelet, comedian Carlen Altman is adorning everyone from high-profile models like Agyness Deyn to her favorite elderly “models of the week.” Yet Carlen mixes a little sentiment in with her sense of humor. The glow-in-the-dark Olympic Star rosary features a Noah’s Ark connector and a silver-plated star cast from an original pendant owned by her grandmother. ($19-99, JewishRosaries.com)

Crawling down the catwalk
Little girls can get a jump start on their strut and be top-models-in-training before they leave the crib! Celebrities like Nicole Richie and Elisabeth Rohm are getting a kick out of their kids with Heelarious’ high-heel crib shoes for babies. Their little girls just might develop a footwear fetish with these silly, soft pumps that are meant to be “her first high heels.” ($35, heelarious.com)

Swab scents
That smell is so you. Believe it or not, you can purchase a personalized “biologically seductive” cologne or perfume made from your own DNA. Bag ladies
Raindrops keep falling on my … purse! They keep falling, ugh. Many women struggle with the split-second dreadful decision to either save their blowout or their bag as they make a mad dash for cover in a downpour. Now, thanks to Rain Couture’s chic covers, you won’t have to. Their raincoats-for-your-totes fold up into a small pouch that will slide into your satchel for your next fashion emergency. ($55-$85, ShopRainCouture.com)

Fashion flashback
Heat-sensitive hypercolor fashion is back, thanks to brands like Puma ($65; Puma.com) and American Apparel ($35; AmericanApparel.net). The color-changing gear that was hot during the ’80s is popping up once more, bringing fun-and-games fashion to a new generation. But on a serious note, SpaFinder is using color-changing technology as a sun-safety awareness tool. In an effort to prevent melanoma, they’ve created photosensitive “I Will Reflect” bracelets, which transform from white to purple when exposed to harmful UV rays ($4.95; Spafinder.com)

Hollywood’s haute drinks
Tinseltown’s trendsetters are all swearing by Kombucha, a sweetened tea that has been reported to aid in digestion, fight aging and promote weight loss (gtskombucha.com). Though this famous fungus-enhanced tea drink may not sound glamorous, the Chinese have called it an Immortal Health Elixir, “30 Rock” ‘s Tina Fey raved about it on a late-night talk show, Lindsay Lohan has been photographed with it, and members of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast drink it. But if that’s not your “cup of tea,” you can always twist, shake and activate with a new beverage that releases a powder boost when you open the cap. Matthew McConaughey, who could be the poster child for the perfect beach body and healthy lifestyle, has been reordering cases of the benefit-enhanced Activate water ($2.30; ActivateDrinks.com).

Row over stilettos for babies

The heel itself is soft so no pressure can be put on it

When you think babies, you think nappies, bibs and plastic bottles. Now think leopard skin stilettos.

Two mums in the States have created high-heeled shoes for newly born babies. They’re called Heelarious and come in six different styles – including hot pink, black and white stripes and leopard print.

One of the inventors, Britta Bacon, came up with the idea as she was on her way to a child’s birthday. She began thinking it would be hilarious if she could bring her daughter to the party in high heels.

The shoes are made out of a soft fabric and have a satin finish. They come in sizes 0 to 6 months and cost around £18.

In the two weeks they have been on sale, the 31-year-old mums have sold more than 2,000 pairs to customers in London, Ireland, and Belgium. 50 stores across America are selling them and you can get them online too.

Not everyone is as excited as the creator and her business partner, Hayden Porter.

Newsbeat showed a pair of the hot pink ones to some mums and dads in New York.

‘Dangerous’

Patrice Barnard has a four-month-old girl. She was freaked out by the idea of putting her baby in stilettos.

She said: “They look soft but really dangerous. Children shouldn’t be wearing shoes like that. She should be wearing hard and ugly shoes that their feet need at that age.”

Heelarious shoes

The shoes come in a range of styles from leopard print to stripey

Child protection group Love Our Children USA said: “We need to let our children be children.

“There is plenty of time for them to grow up and wear stilettos. Even though these shoes look very cute, it’s not healthy for their development.”

However, Ms Porter said the shoes shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

She said: “It’s supposed to be just a fun novelty and make people laugh product.

“They’re safe and they’re never going to hurt the children. We would never do anything like that.”

‘Hysterical’

Annette Milano got a pair for her unborn granddaughter. When she saw an advert for the stilettos in a magazine, she said she couldn’t wait to get her hands on a pair.

She said: “The shoes are hysterical. I’m surprised no one came up with the idea sooner.

“So funny and so cute and they remind me of the shoes on Wizard Of Oz. We’ve got the pink ones but we’re going for the leopard ones next.”

The heels on the shoes are only supposed to be for show and collapse if any pressure is put on them.

The inventors are now working on their next project which is for baby boys. The product is top secret though.

“They’re going to be called HE-larious and will be out in August so keep a look out,” they said.

Now baby girls can really kick up their heels – in stilettos fashioned for the crib set.

The soft crib booties designed to look like high heels are selling like wildfire in 22 states and overseas, their creators told ABCnews.com – and the tiny spikes are about to make their New York debut.

Mointte Benitez, 33, who was strolling in City Hall Park yesterday with her 4-year-old daughter, said they’re something she “definitely would” buy a baby “for the sake of fashion.”

The shoes – in sizes 0 to six months – are not meant for walking and will “collapse” if little ones put weight on them, says the designers’ Web site, heelarious.com.

Creators Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter say on the Web site that “her first high heels” are “extremely funny, completely soft, fully functional high-heel crib shoes for babies.”

The novelty pumps that let infants channel their inner Carrie Bradshaw come in six colors – leopard satin print, hot pink patent, black satin, zebra satin, black patent, and hot pink satin.
